Who is responsible for your information?

What information we collect
For parents or guardians, we may collect information such as your name, email address, telephone number, account details, enquiry information and information you provide in connection with tuition.
For students, we may collect information needed to provide the learning service, including:
- name and tuition group;
- revision activity, questions attempted and whether answers were correct;
- learning progress, mastery and areas for improvement;
- XP, gems, achievements and other in-app progress;
- avatar choices and app preferences; and
- account information needed to operate Science Boost.
Science Boost Academy does not ask students to provide sensitive personal information through the revision app.
Why we use this information
We use personal information to provide tuition and app access, create and manage accounts, place students in the correct group, save revision progress, identify topics that may need further practice, operate features such as achievements and leaderboards, communicate with parents, provide account recovery and keep the service secure.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use students' revision results for advertising.
What other students can see
Science Boost includes group leaderboard features. Other students in the same tuition group may be able to see limited information such as a student's display name, avatar, XP and percentage correct.
They cannot see parent contact details, private tutor notes, passwords or login details, or a student's full revision history.
Our lawful bases
Where information is needed to provide services purchased by a parent or guardian, we may process it because it is necessary to perform our contract. We may also rely on legitimate interests for purposes such as keeping appropriate learning records, operating and securing the service and improving how it works, where those interests do not override the rights and interests of the people involved.
Where the law requires another basis, such as consent for a genuinely optional use, we will use the appropriate basis.
Children's information
Science Boost is designed for school-age students. Accounts are provided as part of the tuition service rather than through open public student sign-up. We aim to collect only information needed to provide the learning service and to use privacy-protective settings by default.
Who we use to provide the service
We use specialist technology providers to operate Science Boost. These may include:
- Supabase — authentication and database services;
- Cloudflare — website and application hosting and security; and
- Resend — delivery of account-related emails.
These providers process information only as needed to provide their services. Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom; where this happens, appropriate safeguards required by UK data-protection law are used.
How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including authenticated accounts, encrypted connections, restricted access, database access controls and multi-factor authentication for administrative access.
How long we keep information
Personal information is kept only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described above. Active account and learning information is normally kept while a student receives tuition and uses Science Boost. When tuition ends, information that is no longer needed is reviewed and deleted, unless there is a legal, safeguarding, accounting, security or dispute-related reason to keep particular records for longer.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask what personal information we hold, obtain a copy, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, restrict or object to certain processing, or request transfer of information where the right to data portability applies.
To make a request, email hello@scienceboostacademy.co.uk. We may need to verify the identity of the person making the request.
Account deletion
A parent or guardian can ask for a child's Science Boost account and associated data to be deleted where there is no legal reason for us to keep it.
Cookies and local storage
The website and app may use essential browser storage needed for features such as authentication, security and saving app state. We do not use student revision data for advertising. If non-essential analytics or advertising technologies are added in future, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated.
Complaints
If you are concerned about how we use personal information, please contact us first so we can investigate. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data-protection regulator.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as Science Boost Academy changes. The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date.
